He studied English at Nottingham University. After working at the Nottingham Evening Post he moved to London in 1960 to take a job with Tatler. In 1968 he published a book called Drag, followed by three cookery books. In 1970 he became London CHE organiser and was also involved with Spartacus, becoming its editor. He also edited Quorum, and was one of the founders of Gay Sweatshop.
